Introducing Philly Buster IPA

2020 and its suspenseful entrance into 2021 has been a bit of a beast for everyone. With this in mind, we decided to brew a beer bringing the wherewithal to see us through into the brighter months.

Named after recent political goings-on, Philly Buster is approaching DIPA territory, encapsulating all the punch you would expect from one, but falls just shy at a slightly subtler 7.2%.

A Mountain IPA in style, we thought it fitting to brew a beer that is a blend of East and West Coast styles. All the juice and haze of a NEIPA backed up with the pithy bitterness of a classic West Coast IPA.

Starting on a Low Colour Pale Ale malt base, we added wheat and oats into the grist to bring some of that enticing New England Haze and body to the brew. The addition of a duel-use hop like Belma brings a luscious mix of fruit flavours such as orange peel, melon, and strawberry.

We wanted the beer to carry that deep resinous hop quality of a big US IPA so added Sultana and Idaho 7 for notes of juicy stone fruit, sticky pine, citrus and fresh, ripe pineapple.

The resulting brew is a supremely balanced concoction; rich, thick and hazy with a real knock your socks of bitterness ready to shock you out of the lockdown snooze.
